Why won’t my LG TV connect to the internet? LG’s troubleshooting page starts by asking whether other devices on the same network can connect, then lists four possible causes and a set of fixes. This guide summarizes that page. It is LG’s guidance for LG TVs, not a rule for every brand.
It covers a TV that can’t connect, and only what LG’s page states. It doesn’t add steps of our own.

Why Won’t My LG TV Connect to the Internet? The Four Causes LG Lists
According to LG’s US support page (the page shows the date 04/20/2026), a TV that isn’t connecting usually comes down to one of these:
- The router or provider: the router may be turned off, or there may be a temporary outage with your internet service provider (ISP).
- Distance and obstacles: the TV may be too far from the router, or walls and other obstacles may be making the signal unstable.
- Settings or password: the TV’s network settings may be incorrect, or the Wi-Fi password may have been entered wrongly. LG says to check uppercase and lowercase letters.
- The TV itself: if your router’s name doesn’t appear at all in the TV’s network settings, LG says the TV may need service.
First Check: Is It the TV or the Network?
LG says to see whether other devices, such as a smartphone or laptop, can connect to the same network. If none of them can, LG says the issue is likely your router or your ISP, and it suggests trying to restart or reset the router. LG’s page doesn’t explain how to reset a router, and we don’t either.
If the TV is the only device that won’t connect, LG says there may be a network settings issue, or the TV may need service. It suggests a further test: turn on your smartphone’s Mobile Hotspot and try connecting the TV to it. If the TV connects, LG says the TV is working properly and the issue may be related to your ISP or router.
Reconnecting the TV to Wi-Fi or Ethernet
LG says to press the Settings (gear icon) button on the TV remote and follow the menu path to reconnect to your network. The path depends on the TV’s model year, and LG lists each one on its page, so use LG’s page for your TV’s. Once you reach the Wi-Fi connection screen, you select your wireless network and enter the password. LG notes that Wi-Fi passwords are case-sensitive, and it says to confirm afterward that the TV is connected to the internet.
For a wired connection, LG says to connect an Ethernet cable to the TV, and that the TV will detect the network automatically.
Check the Network Status and Restart the Router and Modem
If the network status screen shows a problem, LG’s page splits the next steps by where the break is. When the TV isn’t connected to the router, a wired connection means checking that the Ethernet cable is securely connected. A wireless connection means making sure the Wi-Fi network name and password are entered correctly. If everything looks right, LG says to restart both the router and the modem, then reconnect.
When the router isn’t connected to the modem, or the modem isn’t connected to the internet, LG says to restart the router and the modem. For each one, unplug the power cable, wait about 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
What This Page Doesn’t Cover
This guide covers an LG TV that can’t connect. It doesn’t cover a connection that keeps dropping, because LG’s page doesn’t address that. In the page text we reviewed, LG tells you to contact LG Customer Support in some cases, such as when no network name appears under the network connection setting, but it gives no contact details. It also gives no router settings beyond restarting or resetting.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t my LG TV connect to the internet?
LG lists four causes: the router is off or the ISP has a temporary outage, the TV is too far from the router or the signal is blocked, the TV’s network settings or Wi-Fi password are wrong, or the TV needs service. It suggests first checking whether other devices can connect.
Will a Wi-Fi extender help if my LG TV is far from the router?
LG says a Wi-Fi extender can improve your signal range, but depending on your environment it may cause slower speeds or unstable connections. For a more reliable connection, LG says to move your router closer to your TV or use a wired Ethernet connection.
What if no Wi-Fi networks appear in my LG TV’s settings?
LG says that if the Wi-Fi list is empty or the Wi-Fi connection menu is disabled, your TV may need service. It recommends contacting LG Customer Support.
